John is a graduate of the Guildhall of Music and Drama and after subsequently studying at Leeds University, became a peripatetic instrumental teacher for several Location Education Authority Music Services in Yorkshire and the North East. He undertook postgraduate study at Goldsmith’s College (University of London) and Durham University where he obtained a Master’s Degree in research at the Department of Music. His teaching career has involved working at Ian Ramsey school, Longlands and more recently at Teesside University where he was a senior lecturer in digital music until September 2014. His music-making activities have been as diverse as being an instrumental player for local societies, orchestras and groups, overseeing the music at Tees valley Community Church as one half of a singer/songwriter duo and more recently as Musical Director of the Oakwood Community Choir and the Teesside Apollo Male Voice Choir. He currently teaches music privately, an occupation he has continued throughout his career.
Jenny studied music at Edinburgh University and later in Wurzburg, where she occupied the position of Staff Accompanist at the Musikhochschule. She has performed extensively, both here and on the continentas an accompanist and chamber musician. She enjoys teaching and accompanying various local choral groups.our hope is that her partnership with John will take us through a more settled and successful time.

David Carter MBE
David joined the choir in 9161, beginning as a second tenor but during the late Gwyn Morris period he switched his vocal talents to the top tenor section. He performs many solo performances, sings duets with our guest sopranos and is presently master of ceremonies at all of our concerts. He has served many roles the on the choir committee, including Choir Chairman, and has always been heavily involved in the successes of our Annual concerts.
Apart from being a life member of the Apollo, David’s interest in the local music scene is extensive. He is Vice-President of Stockton Stage Society, for whom he has performed many leading roles in musicals and operettas, and is the main sponsor of both the Stockton Music Festival and the Shine Music Festival.
Away from music David is Chairman and Managing Director of Carter Steel, President of Yarm Cricket Club and co-founder of Yarm School. He was awarded an MBE in the 2018 Honour’s list for his services to the community on Teesside.
Bill joined the choir about ten years ago.
